1.Artist: Jon Prata
Song: “Robbery”
Release Date: November 13th, 2024

Why it’s a Must Listen:
I’ve always loved the musical journey Mr. Prata takes me on and “Robbery” is no exception. It’s a very interesting evolution from his last song “Orchids”, which gave me more of a laid back chill summertime aesthetic, but I love how he switches it up with “Robbery”. It a very Trip-Hop / Electronic / Psychedelic / 80’s New Wave vibe and I’m definitely here for it! With his pulsating beats, longing lyrics and vocals, this song is a wonderful evolution into the mind of Jon Prata’s world. My only complaint is that his songs are not long enough. But, I guess when it comes to good music, always wanting more is never a bad thing.

2. Band: Man of the Oasis
Song: “Shannon’s Song”Ā
Release Date: November 1, 2024

Why it’s a Must Listen:
This lovely ballad by Man of the Oasis called “Shannon’s Song” is a beautiful melancholy low-fi rock song about love, longing and heartbreak. You can truly feel the pain in his voice and this song just sticks with you long after it ends. I know the concept of heartbreak is one we can all identify with, and they do such an amazing job finding that emotion in their lyrics, vocals and musicianship. I love it when artists are not afraid to be real, raw and vulnerable and Man of the Oasis accomplishes that masterfully. I know obviously many of their songs have a very low-fi melancholic vibe, but I feel for some reason this song just guts me a little differently, you can feel them evolving as musicians and as songwriters in “Shannon’s Song”. They really poured their heart out in their lyrics and music with this one and I’m excited to see where else they will take us the listener in the future.

3.Band: Nova Babies
Song: “Rudolph, Make it Quick!”
Release Date: November 30th, 2024

Why it’s a Must Listen:
I’ve always been a fan of Nova Babies. Their music always give a dance rock indie vibe, very modest mouse coded (to me at least) , but they always stay true to who they are as musicians and keep always surprising me with their evolution of their musical landscape and yes, this Xmas song is no exception. I appreciate that they’re giving us a very tongue and cheek song about Rudolph, well, correction, Rudolph is obviously a euphemism for definitely something else, but I will let the listener decide on that one. (lmao) Like all their songs, “Rudolph, Make it Quick!” is an infectious ear worm from start to finish, and one that you need to instantly add to your Xmas playlist right now! I can’t until the next journey Nova Babies will take us on, it’s always an incredibly joyous ride.

4.Band: Break Check
Song: “Solitude”
Release Date: From Their New EP “Constants“, which will be released on December 10th, 2024 and they will be having a release party for it on 12/13 at The Punk Rock Museum.
For more Information, please visit their Instagram.

Why it’s a Must Listen:
“Solitude” Is a very interesting progression for Brake Check. it still has the gritty punk vibe that I love about them, but it seems that to tackle very serious issues such as not letting anyone change who you are and staying true to yourself, and also dealing with the past issues that might still linger, but still persevering through it all. But that has always been the beauty of Brake Check and their music. They have never been afraid to be real with their lyrics and laying it all out there, all while keeping that punk rock fuck you attitude that I love. I just appreciate the musical evolution that you can hear from their songs in 2021 to Now. It’s a wonderful maturity that has taken place while also not losing sight of who they are as a band. I feel every year they just seem to get better and better, so I’m genuinely curious to hear what their new EP on 12/10 will be like. I assume it will be a wonderful extension of an already kick ass story.

5. Band: Subsanity
Song:”Waste Away…and Die”
Release Date: November 9th, 2024

Why it’s a Must Listen:
“Waste Away and Die!” is a sick collaboration between Subsanity and composer Mike Petrov and they definitely have created a match made in heaven with this song! I loved their last single “Fallout”, which was a heavy metal, balls to the walls song in itself, but “Waste Away and Die” is an interesting evolution with their sound and feels to me like a cool step maybe in the next direction of them as a band. It’s an unapologetic heavy metal banger that talks about revenge and the possible anger that comes with that. From beginning to end this song grips you with that vocal growl, piercing lyrics, gritty heavy metal sound that instantly wants to make me start a riot, or a Mosh pit as soon as I hear it. (lmao) It’s hard to explain the joy that their music brings me, you just have to play this song as loud as you can on your headphones and just get lost in the experience that Subsanity takes you on. This song truly kicks ass! šŸ™‚
