A hypnotic bass guitar and haunting howl kick starts the latest earworm, “Don’t Cry For Me,” by SECOS (@secosband).

Hailing from Las Vegas, SECOS is a Mexican-American alt-rock band and homegrown talent. In 2022, they performed at the Life is Beautiful festival and were highlighted in The Las Vegas Weekly. But have you heard their most recent jam?

SECOS’ “Don’t Cry For Me” summons the spirit of iconic rock groups like The Strokes, showcasing lively electric guitars, powerful drums, and impassioned vocals. Palpable and dynamic, the sound generates a pulsating melody accompanied by lamentable lyrics such as “My bones will turn to dust as I extinguish myself” while seeking redemption with its last words, “but I’m trying.” The juxtaposition of its upbeat rhythm and somber verses supply a complex music composition that makes this SECOS track a standout.

According to their YouTube channel, SECOS dedicates their new single to those who have lost someone to alcohol abuse while also empathizing with those who may struggle with substance use disorder, adding a hopeful note that “help is out there.” In Sin City, famed for its intoxicating nightlife and around-the-clock libations, it’s sadly a place where many people struggle with excessive drinking disorders or loved ones who do.

“Don’t Cry For Me,” is a poignant song infused with a harsh truth and an infectious beat produced with high quality, which sets it apart from a typical indie rock anthem that’s all thrills and no soul. SECOS has a heart and enough nerve to make their music personal, giving them a genuine edge and an intimate sound, creating something fresh yet familiar. In Spanish, the word “secos” means dry, reflecting the desert they call home, which also serves as a fitting descriptor for the stark sentiments woven into their heartfelt work.
