AOTW: theguiltyparty

Hello Rockstars!
Today I am going to be talking about Alternative-Rock Band theguiltyparty!
Here’s their story in their own words, Enjoy!

VMS:
“When did you start writing and performing your music.
What’s your backstory and current lineup.”

GP:
“So we started about a year ago to this day, sometime around there. Chance, our drummer and I (Volkan) were previously in a band called A Poison Alibi, which was a bit heavier, a bit more on the post hardcore side. After that band disbanded, we both sort of “gave up” on music and started focusing on other things, family, work etc.

I couldn’t live without writing consistently, whether one person or 100 hear it, I enjoy writing music, it’s how I decompress (sounds crazy I know). We ended up calling up some old friends and got our first gig in 3 months, put out a small EP, and have been going ever since.”

VMS:
“What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.”

GP:
“Such a great question, the two bands probably inspiring me the most recently would be Queens of the Stone Age, and Boston Manor. You’ll find a lot of contrast in our music, we definitely get some inspiration from The Strokes, and other alternative bands, but we also have a little bit of an edgier style, maybe like Chevelle.
Huge fan of all of these bands.”

VMS:
“What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.”

GP:
“The writing process is consistent for most of our songs, I’ll attempt to bring an idea to the table, if we all like it, I’ll work on finishing the song, and then move onto writing lyrics and melodies.

Inspiration wise, we never say “let’s write a song about this” or that, whatever the song makes us feel, is what comes out.”

VMS:
“Tell me about your 2024 EP: “Bad Drug”. What was the inspiration and process of writing your music.”

GP:
“Bad Drug” was an interesting song as our former singer Nick pretty much wrote the entire song and brought it to us, which was new for us, we said this is RAD and wanted to get it out ASAP!

“Take Me Away” is a very emotional song that has changed since it’s inception, there’s heavy QotSA vibes in there, but it’s SO much fun to play live, probably my favorite.

“Cinema” was written by me and the original lyrics came from our former front man, Seth, where he was singing a melody that was very close and we decided to center the song around that line, in the chorus!”

VMS:
“Which local artist would you like to work with and why.”

GP:
“There’s so many, but I’ve been digging the Pure Sport guys, they’re so good, Heroine Honey is taking over, and it’s been awesome to watch them grow as a band, huge fan of theirs too.”

VMS:
“What’s your overall theme or message of your music.”

GP:
“That things may not seem as they appear. I wouldn’t say we’re a “positive” band but we definitely have been through so much in the last year, and haven’t quit, so I think there will be some of that perseverance influence in the newer songs.”

VMS:
“Do you have a favorite song that you like to perform.”

GP:
“Mine personally is “Take Me Away”, as the song hits a climax, and comes back down, and gets heavier again, and I think we sound good playing it (hopefully).”

VMS:
“Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.”

GP:
“Every show we play is an interesting one, more interesting than the last, if you’ve seen us before, you’ll know what i’m talking about. :).”

VMS:
“What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.”

GP:
“These questions are fantastic, I wouldn’t guide them on a particular feeling, but just ANY feeling is enough for me. We’ve been lucky enough to play some awesome shows and I definitely think we’re one of those bands that’s hard to categorize, but as long as you’re having fun, we’re having fun.”

VMS:
“What does the future hold for TheGuiltyParty.”

GP:
“We’ve had to change our plans a few times because of lineup issues, but we’re hoping to have a busy summer and a EP by the end of August.”

VMS Thoughts:

What I love about theguiltyparty, is there incredibly catchy lyrics about real life struggles such as love and loss, melodies that create an instant ear worm in your psyche, with driving guitar and drum that forces you to stand up and take notice. That have that awesome late 90’s / early 2000’s vibe that is such a great sound and definitely has been missed by current music standards.

Whether their rocking out in their epic and incredibly catchy song “Bad Drug”, or taking you on a musical journey with “Take Me Away”, I feel they have such a strong musical presence and I am excited to see what the next evolution of this band looks like. If you get a chance, I encourage you to see them live. Their music is only one part of the puzzle, with their live shows you get such an amazing and all encompassing experience, that will take their music on a whole other level for the listener. I know they have only shown just a glimmer of what they can do, and I’m incredibly excited to see the atomic explosion one day, it’s going to be huge.
