Hello Rockstars! Today’s Artist of the Week is Avant-garde Musical Artist Kevlar Siick!
Here’s his story in his own words! Enjoy! 🙂
VMS:
“When did you start writing and performing your music, What’s your backstory.”
Kevlar Siick:
“I started writing poetry in elementary school because I loved the complex metaphors, the similes, the personifications, and the double entendre. I have always thought it was extraordinary for someone to express their emotions in a poetic manner. When it came to hip-hop , I fell in love with the Art-form after hearing the deep music of the legendary artist Tupac Shakur. After hearing him rap, I just knew for a fact that I wanted to indulge and dominate the rap world . I honestly just want my perspectives to be heard around the globe. I know for a fact that I have the talent to have a legendary impact on the world.”
VMS:
“What artist or bands inspired you and your sound.”
Kevlar Siick:
“The main artists that have inspired me, far as hip-hop music, would definitely have to be 2pac, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, 50 cent, Ja Rule, DMX,and Nas. The other musicians/bands that I looked up to would be Nirvana, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Kings of Leon, X- Ambassadors, Sade, Green Day, Lisa Standfield, and Nickelback. I have much more, but the list would be too long, lol .”
VMS:
“What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.”
Kevlar Siick:
“I can only compare my unorthodox style to a puzzle. I write in puzzles. The example would be writing a line in the middle of the verse and then writing a line at the beginning of the verse. After that process, I just fill in the missing pieces until completion. As far as the subject goes. The beat communicates with me by demanding a specific subject.”

VMS:
“I love your songs “You Can Run,” “John Wick,” and “Wonder Why.” What is the inspiration or story behind these songs.”
Kevlar Siick:
“Wonder Why – The Story behind that song was I wanted to touch on the subjects that many rappers are afraid of touching on, such as the victims of the sex trade . I also touched on the hideous subjects that we are currently enduring today, such as racism/ social injustice and classism social / poverty issues.
Watch “Wonder Why” on YouTube:
You Can Run – It actually was an idea that I had in my head for a while because I love Halloween, and I love horror movies . It’s my favorite holiday and movie genre. I’m also an absolute die hard fan of the characters that me, my brother, and my sisters had portrayed in the music video. I absolutely love Jason Voorhees and the slasher Ghostface. I would love to be in one of their movies one day, lol .
Watch “You Can Run” on YouTube:
John wick – The Song Was actually written because I’m a huge John Wick fan and I wanted the song to be featured in the movie but I waited too late to submit the song to be featured in the film . I am praying that my song will be featured in John Wick 5.
The music video was a masterpiece because I went above and beyond with the props as far as having the actual transaction coins and the John Wick suit . I even had my friend playing as the Hallie Barry’s character that’s named Sofia Al-Azwar . I was going to add my dog to the music, but he was too sick that night to be involved. Rest In Peace To My Dog Achilles.”

“Which local artist would you like to work with and why.”
Kevlar Siick:
“As far as right now, I’m just working with my team of lyricist.I’m not trying to sound narcissistic, but I just want my team to win first. We call ourselves Veteran Union because we represent a brotherhood, and we move like a union. I’m so focused on them because I want us to be a big brand and a juggernaut record label so we can run the music industry of Las Vegas and globally.
After we accomplish that, then I’ll help other underground artists to make this Union a powerful plus GIGANTIC Las Vegas movement. Also, I don’t care what genre of music that you create. I just want Las Vegas to prevail in the music industry because we have so much unique and extraordinary talent in our city, and it needs to be heard across the world.”
VMS:
“What’s your overall theme or message of your music.”
Kevlar Siick:
“It would have to be lyricism, uniqueness, and deep thoughts to impact the thoughts of people to think outside of the box to accomplish by any means necessary.”

VMS:
“Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.”
Kevlar Siick:
“I remember I had caught the bus to Los Angeles to try and get signed to the legendary label called Aftermath Records, which is owned by the legendary Dr. Dre. When I arrived downtown, I then booked a suite at the infamous plus spooky hotel called Cecil Hotel. It was the hotel where the serial killer Richard ramirez stayed. It was a bizarre atmosphere there, but that’s all I could afford. Nothing crazy occurred while I stayed there. I just remember that years later, there was a documentary created about the hotel, and I was astounded because I didn’t know the eerie history of the hotel.
At the time, I couldn’t afford a rental car, so I had to take a long bus trip to Santa Monica because that’s where the Interscope label office was. When I arrived, I had tried to pass out my cd’s, but I was intervened by the security guard. He kept giving me warnings until he had threatened to alert the police if I continued to solicit on their property. So I then placed a few cds in the door when the fat security did his patrol rounds of the property . After that, I just walked the streets of Santa Monica and handed out my cd to everybody . I vividly remember passing out so many cds that it seemed like everyone that was driving by was bumping my music . It was a surreal feeling.”
VMS:
“What does the future hold for Kevlar Siick.”
Kevlar Siick:
“I would say success. Nothing but success.”
VMS:
“What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.”
Kevlar Siick:
“I want people to feel that their dreams can be possible no matter the struggles .”

VMS Thoughts:
What I love about Kevlar Siick is that he refuses to limit his musical horizons, which for the listener, makes for an amazing experience. Whether it’s talking about incredibly important topics like Inequality in the song “Wonder Why”, Horror Films with “You Can Run” or Action Stars like with “John Wick” those are all just pieces to an incredibly complex puzzle. I encourage you to check out his Soundcloud, where he starts to peel back more layers of his lyrics and musical landscape. Talking about love, social and political issues, he really has such an incredible way with his words, and such a bite to what he talks about, I would definitely consider his lyrics to be in the poetry category for me personally.
His passion for his music is just as strong musically as well, with the Standout tracks being the very powerful “You Know What Time it is“, and the Metal / Rap Infused (and personal Favorite) “No Purpose“, honestly, I would be down for a whole Metal / Rap album! I know he has some other Rock songs that are unreleased that are amazing as well, that I think would definitely be a cool territory to explore.
If you ever get a chance to see him live, you better fucking go! To experience the full world of his music you have to see him live. His passion for the stage is like no other and you can tell he truly feels everything he talks about, giving for a one of a kind magnetic performance that should definitely not be missed! Wherever Kevlar Siick chooses to go, he will always make you think, get outside your comfort zone and open up your world to what the possibilities of music can truly be. I can’t wait to see the next chapter in this already complex story, I just know it’s going to be one truly amazing wild ride.
