AOTW Archives: Psycho

Today I’m starting a new series where I highlight wonderful up and coming bands in the Las Vegas Valley, and this week the artist I’m focusing on is the Experimental Band Psycho

Psycho’s trio consists of:

Ethan (guitar, vocals)

Brendan (bass)

Kazaya (keyboard)

Here’s their story in their own words:

“Psycho is a band that uses high energy and interaction with their fans to create a great environment for the next generation of musicians. The music we make spans the corners of every genre between punk, metal, jazz, funk, and chaos. Currently, we want people to love, hate, and Fear us. Love our sound, our energy, our minds. Hate that we are always defying what we were before and Fearing what’s next!”

I got a chance to hear their new song “The Noose” and I think it’s a wonderful combination of punk, metal and chaos, with some brillaint carnival of souls organ vibes as well.

Here’s what Ethan (Songwriter) had to say about the inspiration behind “The Noose”:

“It’s about a shape shifter killing people in your identity. The Noose is a play on words with the news. One side of it being your being hung for a crime you didn’t commit. The other side, being on the news and having your public image ruined by someone who looks exactly like you, killing people in your name. There’s definitely a lot of themes that can be applied to today’s social climate. Those are for the listener to determine though. “The Noose” is our most recent release giving a hint of the era Psycho is going into. We got 808s, organs, guitar solos, and chaotic moments of screaming.”

With influences from bands like Mr bungle, primus, system of a down, lately dillinger escape plan. daft punk, dead pirates, primus, and queens of the stone age, Rammstein, queen, David bowie, headhunterz, and cage the elephant, This band definitely has an amazing diversity to make their music exciting for the listener. What I personally love about them is you can tell they are trying to push the envelope of what music can be. I absolutely get so excited when bands go out of the realm of conventional music and I have high hopes for Psycho, I definitely think they are ones to watch for!

And this is why they are my first Las Vegas Music Scene Artist of the Week!
