Today’s Artist of the Week is Rock / Funk Musician Daddy Priest!
His journey began in 11th grade and he has been rocking out ever since, Bringing a combination of the old and new school of Rock and Funk, while having a fun party atmosphere in his live shows. You don’t know whether you’re going to headbang or start making a baby on the dancefloor.
Daddy Priest on his live shows: “I want my audiences to have a good time, leave having had a good time, and then make it home and have a good time (If you know what I mean). I want everyone who comes there, I don’t know if they came there alone, to find somebody. If you came there with your partner, then awesome, but at the end of the day I want you guys to get so riled up in there, so horned up, that at the show you’re just driven to orgasm. I like to think of it as a good night of sinful debauchery.”
What I love about his songs is that they all come from personal experiences that he channels into songs like “Save Me” which is a wonderful exploration into self awareness and fighting your demons, “Smoke W U” which is the perfect summer hanging out at the beach vibe, and “Vegas Dark” which is a beautiful ballad about las vegas, done during the shutdown.
Daddy Priest on Spotify:
It was fun to learn of his career and all the wonderful experiences he has had, “I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of favorite moments in my career, from singing with Hugh Jack, my work with Game of Thrones, you know, probably my favorite getting discovered by Larry Blackman just as I was sitting in Guitar Center before my shift one day and he heard me warming up and you know, it was really magical. A great experience with those guys.”
Daddy Priest lives by one quote: “Your life is yours and yours alone, so rise up and live it“ – Terry Goodkind. I believe that you should do what makes you happy. Do what brings you joy. Do what keeps you going every morning, not because somebody else needs you to, but because you want to, because it’s your drive, live your life for you. You’re not going to work for the house, you’re going to work for you, because you want the house not just to pay for the house but it’s because it’s of your wants, your needs, your desires. Do what you need to do for yourself. It’s the only way to make it in this world.”
I know Daddy Priest has the passion, drive, showmanship and positive outlook that is desperately needed in the music industry and I know he will go as far as he wants in his career, the possibilities I feel are truly endless for him and his music.
And that’s why he is my Vegas Music Scene Artist of the Week.
