Today I am going to be telling you about our Artist of the Week, Heavy Metal Rock Band ALGORERHYTHM!
Here’s their story in their own words, enjoy! 😉
VMS:
“When did you start writing and performing your music. What’s your backstory and current lineup.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“ALGORERHYTHM was founded in January of 2020 by guitarist Karl Christenson, bassist Tom Nieves, and drummer Brian Hanks. In the aftermath of our previous projects falling out, we found ourselves talking about starting a new project right before the whole world shut down. Fortunately the “stay at home” orders gave us plenty of time to work out the songs that would make up the self produced “Not Dead Yet” EP we realeased in July of 2021: the same day as our first show at Backstage Bar and Billiards.”
VMS:
“Tell me about your 2023 Album “Sex, Money, Lies.” What was the writing process like for that album, and your inspiration.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“Sex Money Lies” was our second self-produced effort and was written and recorded in early 2022. The three tracks were originally rough song concepts we had leftover from the writing sessions of “Not Dead Yet.” The title “Sex Money Lies” refers to the lyrical content contained in the three songs on the EP. Fun Fact: the entire EP was basically done before we went in the studio to record our second release, “Under Cover.” We ended up dropping that record second so we could focus on the music videos for “Sex Money Lies.”

VMS:
“What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“We’re all inspired by very different music, and a lot of it you wouldn’t really guess based on how we sound. Collectively I think it’s safe to say the Big 4 of American heavy metal were all huge influences on us as up and coming musicians.”
VMS:
“What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“This is honestly something that varies greatly from song to song. Some songs like “I Won’t” or “The Look” were completely musically and lyrically arranged by the person singing the song. Other tracks like “Your Lies” and “That Money is Mine” were written in a more collaborative fashion either musically and/or lyrically. We really try and push each other no matter what we’re working on.”
VMS:
“I love your songs “Your Lies”, “The Look” and the EP “Under Cover”. What is the inspiration or story behind these songs.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
” “Under Cover” is an EP composed of 4 cover songs that we put the Algorerhythm twist on. We tried to pick 4 very different songs, all of which you wouldn’t expect to hear from a band like us. These songs were recorded live in studio at Electric Shop recording here in Las Vegas.”
Listen to “Under Cover” on Spotify:
“For “Your Lies” the musical composition was a riff we had around forever. We always knew the riff had potential but it took a long time to find a melody. The first lyrics were actually leftover from the song “I won’t” for a bridge that never found a place in that song. Once we figured out how to retrofit them to fit the Riff we’d had forever, the pieces fell into place for the rest of the song.”
Listen to “Your Lies” on Spotify:
” “The look” originally started as a heavy metal riff, but went through several reworkings before it became the riff it is today. The lyrical content is a story about a player getting played, and you can see the concept played out in the corresponding music video we dropped for it.”

VMS:
“What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“Our energy. We pour a lot of ourselves into this band, and we try to let that show when we’re on stage. For me personally, I always think of it like “if we aren’t having fun, neither is our audience.” So we might as well have as much fun as possible, even if only for the other bands and/or the bar staff.”
VMS:
“Which local artist would you like to work with and why.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“That’s hard because there’s so many amazing bands in Vegas. We’ve been fortunate enough to meet tons of amazing local artists and welcome the opportunity to work with anyone interested in working with us!”
VMS:
“What’s your overall theme or message of your music.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“We try to play whatever feels right and work to not pigeon hole ourselves to any “theme” or “genre.” Our overall message is that we want to have “tequila soaked” good time and hope the audience does as well.”
VMS:
“Do you have a favorite song that you like to perform.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
” “Emaline” is one where the phones come out and people start grooving. Any song that gets the people to do that is a favorite in our book.”
VMS:
“Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“Oh man, tons. Most of which we probably shouldn’t share on social media.”
VMS:
“What does the future hold for Algorerhythm.”
ALGORERHYTHM :
“More. More shows. More Music. More videos. More merch. Just more.”
What I love about Algorerhythm is their intense passion and drive they have in their music and everything they do. They have categorized themselves in the Dad Rock and Gore Core, which I feel is a perfect way to describe their sound and their world, but I also see many other elements to what they do. They talk about social, political and personal issues that you can tell are very important to them, delving into the psyche of the listener and combined with them being wonderful musicians who put their own distinct twist on the Alternative / Hard Rock format, they make their music incredibly fresh and leave me always wanting more. I encourage you to go see them live, cause their music is only a piece of the journey. That amazing energy they put into their music I’m happy to say does transfer over into the audience having a one of a kind experience, getting everyone up and rocking out until they die. (lmao) I’m so excited to see what the future looks like for Algorerhythm, they truly have such a huge love for what they do, and I think that energy is so infectious and definitely helps separate them from the rest. Which is why I am proud to say they are my Artist of the Week!
